About Us
Charle Johnson Park is a green space located in the 1300 block of North Bruce Street. Lead by the late community resident, Charles Johnson, the former dumping ground was transformed into and dedicated a community park in 2006. Charles Johnson Park Development Corporation was formed in 2019 as a response to the parks increasing decay over the years. In September we organized our first community clean up with about 25 neighbors and friends cutting grass, removing debris; and culminating with a hot dog and hamburger cook-out.
Using the green community space as a starting point to bring residents together, CJPDC’s mission expands and includes developing the surrounding vacant properties in a way that supports a sustainable community ecosystem and becomes a catalyst for expansive development in Sandtown-Winchester and the greater Baltimore City. A sustainable community ecosystem has to embrace economic diversity and be intentional about avoiding severe gentrification.
